How to Volunteer

Group in front of the Cincinnati Observatory

Do you have an interest in astronomy, local history, or want to help a Cincinnati institution? The Cincinnati Observatory operates nearly every day with the assistance of our 100 active volunteers. If you are interested in working with the public and learning to use telescopes, we'd like you to join our team.

Volunteers assist with our public programs on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights as well as special events and programs. Various jobs include:

  • Greeting visitors
  • Taking admissions
  • Helping in the gift shop
  • Helping in the dome
  • Pointing telescopes

No prior knowledge is necessary - a two hour training session is provided. We schedule volunteers to help one night per month and give you approximately 1 month notice on any assignments.

Volunteering at the Observatory is a great way to learn more about astronomy while helping us reach the public. Plus you will learn how to work the large, historic telescopes!

If you have further questions or are interested in volunteering, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Nicole Capella at nicole@cincinnatiobservatory.org
