Astronomy Evenings with Jupiter and Mars

December 2, 9, 16, and 23 at 7:00pm

Jupiter and Mars viewing season is here and you can find out more about our brighest nighttime planets.

Astronomy Evenings with Jupiter and Mars includes a tour of historic buildings and telescopes, and viewing through telescopes (weather permitting). 

The program is geared for ages 9 and up.

Admission is $15 for adults - $7 for children under 18 - Free for Observatory members!

Reservations and payment are required in advance.

The red planet Mars

MARSAPALOOZA

Return of the Red Planet

Saturday December 3, from 7-10pm

After 26 months, the Red Planet is back.  Mars, always a crowd favorite, will be the featured planet of the month starting with a viewing extravaganza called Marsapalooza.  

The Cincinnati Observatory will open its doors and telescopes to the public while Mars is at its closest to Earth this year.  There will be talks about Mars, tours of the buildings, and viewing through the historic telescopes (weather permitting).  

Advanced tickets: $12/adult, $7/child (ages 3-17)

Day-of tickets: $15/adult, $10/child

Reservations recommended.  Great for all ages.

Heart Nebula

Late Night, Date Night

Saturday December 17 at 10pm

Looking for a romantic night out and under the stars? Come see what the Observatory is like after hours. You'll get to use telescopes to view astronomical objects that are not visible until late at night.

And we will have viewing of both Mars AND Jupiter (weather permitting).

The program runs rain or shine. If the weather does not permit viewing, we'll have fun showing you around the universe and behind the scenes at the Observatory.

Tickets: $30 per person

Space is limited. Adults Only. Singles welcome too.

COVID-19 Information for Nighttime Visitors

Effective April 1st: We have updated our COVID protocols as we continue to keep the safety of our guests, volunteers and staff the highest priority: 
 
  1. We recommend and encourage all guests to wear a face mask that covers their nose and mouth when attending in person Observatory programming. 

  2. For added safety, we will limit the number of attendees at all programs and events to ensure distancing can be maintained. 

  3. We will clean the public areas, equipment, and exhibits before and after each program and have hand sanitizer available in each building for visitors and staff.

  4. We will be maintaining our policy that anyone who feels unwell or displays symptoms associated with COVID-19 will be asked to stay home.

  5. All Cincinnati Observatory staff and volunteers are vaccinated against COVID 19 to help maintain their safety and wellness, as well as those of our guests.
