Astronomy Classes For Kids

The Observatory is home to an online, astronomy-themed kids' club called Cosmic Kids.  And below see our special Planet Passports, your by-mail adventure to the solar system and beyond!

Our online astronomy club for kids is back!

Join us for a virtual Cosmic Kids club on Wednesdays and Saturdays in July. These classes will be free of charge but registration is required. Each week we’ll send out a link to a Zoom meeting for the class and a list of suggested materials.  Topics, dates, and times are below.

Constellation Mythology Online

Have you heard the crazy stories in the stars?  Dean Regas shares his favorite family-friendly myths about constellations of summertime.  We'll look at the two bears, Ursa Major and Ursa Minor, Draco the Dragon, Scorpius and Orion, and the many adventures of Hercules.  Great for all ages.

Cost: $10 per household

Your solar system adventure awaits. Explore the planets and beyond from your own home.  Using materials we mail to you, this project is out of this world!
(If you cannot join the mini-camp classes you can request just the passports)  

After you sign up we will mail you:

  • The Planet Passport
  • 10 cool planet stickers to put in your passport
  • Star and constellation charts
  • Fun space activities you can do at home

Best of all, it is totally free!

Planet Passports is geared for ages 8-13, but anyone can sign up. Or you can select to only a receive a passport packet without taking the mini camp classes.
