Astronomy Classes For Kids

The Observatory is home to an online, astronomy-themed kids' club called Cosmic Kids.  And below see our special Planet Passports, your by-mail adventure to the solar system and beyond!

Cosmic Kids

Join us for free classes for kids and families that are really into outer space.  Choose one session or up to all four.  The classes are free of charge (donations are appreciated).

Wednesday, October 7: Jupiter

     (grades k-5th, from 4:15- 5:00 pm)

Saturday, October 10: Rockets

     (PreK-2nd 10-10:45; 3rd and up 11-12)

Wednesday, October 14: Saturn

     (grades k-5th, from 4:15- 5:00 pm)

Saturday, October 17: Living in Space

     (PreK-2nd 10-10:45; 3rd and up 11-12)

Wednesday, October 21: Mars

     (grades k-5th, from 4:15- 5:00 pm)

Saturday, October 24: Monster Constellations

     (PreK-2nd 10-10:45; 3rd and up 11-12)

Registration is required.  These classes are free but donations are appreciated. 

After you sign up, we’ll send out a link to a Zoom meeting for the class and a list of suggested materials.

Space Science at Home

Space Adventure Class

Whether you are a homeschool student or a student schooling from home our Space Science at Home classes are “out of this world.” This class is open to individual students and entire classes alike.

Sun and Moon Classes

October 6th, k-3rd from 11:00-11:45

October 7th, 4th-6th from 11:00-12:00

Blast off with the Cincinnati Observatory to learn some amazing space science and the best part is you never have to leave your couch! We’ll learn all about the Earth-Moon-Sun system, including how the Sun and Moon impact Earth and what causes the Moon’s phases.

Aliens Classes

October 27th, k-3rd from 11:00-11:45

October 28th, 4th-6th from 11:00-12:00

Is anybody out there? Join the Cincinnati Observatory as we learn about the search for extraterrestrial life and discover what adaptations it might take to live on another planet. We’ll even stretch our creativity by designing our own aliens!

Registration is required in advance.  Space is limited.

Starry Myths for Halloween

Astronomer Dean Regas retells the gross, strange, and eerie tales behind the constellations like the seven-headed Hydra, the unstoppable Eagle, the Ghoul's Star, and other stars of Halloween. 

This family-friendly class is great for stargazers of all ages.

Cost: $10 Per household

Advance registration is required.  After signing up, if you can't attend the class live, you will get a link to view the recording of the class later at your convenience.
