The Observatory is home to an online, astronomy-themed kids' club called Cosmic Kids.  And below see our special Planet Passports, your by-mail adventure to the solar system and beyond!

Winter Break Camp

Virtual Space Camp

For Grades 2-6

Looking for some excitement to fill winter break? Join the Cincinnati Observatory for our first ever virtual winter break camp! We will learn about space, do some citizen science and create some out of this world crafts. 

The Observatory will provide all the supplies your camper needs. Supplies can be picked up from the Observatory or mailed. 

Costs:

Pick up supplies at the Observatory: $60

Have supplies mailed to you: $90

Extra camper (same household): $15

Each day we will meet using Zoom from 10am-noon, take a break for lunch from noon-1pm, and then we will meet again from 1pm-3pm.

Scholarships are available.  Email samantha@cincinnatiobservatory.org a 1 page description of why you want to attend camp and a letter of recommendation from an adult (teacher, coach, mentor, caregiver)

Get ready to do some orbiting! In this class we’ll learn about the Space station and satellites that help us discover more about space.

Wednesday, December 16, 4:15-5:00 PM, Pluto: To be or not to be a planet 

Join our educators as we learn all about Pluto and the reasons why it’s called a dwarf planet.

These classes are free of charge (donations are appreciated), but registration is required. Each week we’ll send out a link to a Zoom meeting for the class and a list of suggested materials.

Have an astronomy questions?  Dean knows the answer (hopefully).  Dean will tackle his most popular space questions and, through fun demos and cool simulations, will bring them down to Earth.  Feel free to ask your own too in the rapid-fire, lightning-round.

Learn the ancient tales behind your favorite constellations including Orion the Hunter and the Seven Sisters, Taurus the Bull, The Big and Little Dogs, and more.  Dean puts a new spin on these myths and shows you where to find the constellations in the sky for yourself.

Virtual Telescope Tour

We will show you the two gigantic and historic telescopes and how they work.  Plus we can answer all your space questions. 

Open to families, home-schoolers, students schooling at home, and entire classes.
