15mm W70 Eyepiece The W70 series eyepieces offer extra field and extra eye relief without sacrificing image quality. Many observers don't like having their eye too close to the eyepiece, on average, the W70 series oculars have an eye relief of 15mm. Combine that with a wide apparent field of view and you have eyepieces that are very comfortable and nice to use. |

The original Edmund Scientific Astroscan is an inexpensive, high-performance telescope that is easy-to-use, maintenance-free and completely portable. Its wide field of view, beautiful images and ease of use make it an excellent telescope for beginner and expert stargazers alike. The heart of the Astroscan is its 1/8 wave, overcoated primary parabolic mirror. Where other telescopes use an inexpensive spherical mirror, the Astroscan's parabolic mirror has a deeper, more complex figure that focuses all incoming light rays to the same point. This results in crisp, clear images without any of distorting effects of spherical mirror aberration. Its creative design has eliminated the cumbersome and complicated mounts typical of most telescopes. Simply place its padded base on any firm, flat surface and you are immediately ready to observe. Its motions are positive and natural, with nothing to tighten or adjust. It's simple enough for a child to use the first time out. |

Through the years Meade was built on the pillars of Exploration, Discovery, Imaging, and Sharing. Indeed the Meade logo itself illustrates the unity of these four pillars, symbolized by four 'M's to form an eight-pointed star. In designing and building affordable telescopes we have been privelidged to be associated with many important organizations and individuals who have taken the path of guiding others on their personal quest of exploration and discovery. Now a group of some of the most luminary visionaries, and astronomy-related organizations today have come together to form the 4M Community to embrace and nurture its members and help them achieve a greater understanding of our universe. |
AstronomyOutreach network was created three years ago as a channel for interacting with the community and to practice outreach. It is this outreach aspect that is the primary reason that I am personally involved in the hobby of astronomy. It turns out that I am not alone, as I found out early on, nearly twenty years ago. While there are many astronomy and space exploration sites on the web, there seems to be few that spotlight the people and organizations who do outreach in this regard. There are also so many of those engaged in this endeavor who did not have a platform or a home to make themselves known to the general public. This was the primary reason to open the AstronomyOutreach network. |

Many telescopes suffer needlessly from poor field contrast caused by stray light reaching the focal plane. Applying a flat black paint to the inside of your telescope tube helps, but a textured matte black surface is a better absorber of light. ProtoStar flocked light trap material is specifically engineered for this purpose. |
