Late Night @ the Observatory
Can't sleep? Looking for a unique night out?
Come see what the Observatory is like after hours - long after the "early crowd" has gone home. You'll get to use the oldest big telescope in the U.S. to view astronomical objects that are not visible until late at night (weather permitting). Get a sneak preview of the next season's planets and stars a month or two ahead of everyone else. Each night is different and special!
These programs are recommended for adults only. If the weather does not permit viewing, we'll have fun with some of the crazy science experiments and "adult" constellation mythology stories that we can't share with family audiences.
Admission is $10 per person |

Both classes may be taken for 1-3 credit hours at a greatly-reduced rate or for non-credit.
All classes will be held at the Cincinnati Observatory and include use of the historic telescopes.
"Cross-Curricular Science Topics"
Course Description: The focus of this workshop is to assist teachers in using astronomy as a vehicle for teaching math, history/social studies, language arts, and fine arts. The sessions will be a mixture of lecture, hands-on activities, small-group discussion and collaboration, and astronomy field experience. Topics include applications of astronomy to 5th-12th grade math; local, national, and world history; geography; ancient mythology and modern literature; and 2- and 3-dimensional functional art. Emphasis will be placed on both content information and exploration of curriculum integration strategies. Ideally, this workshop will empower teachers to integrate astronomy units into multiple subjects as a team-taught, cross-curricular theme. Participants will also be connected to local astronomy resources and equipment, as well as practice with the best sky simulation software.
Course goals: At the completion of this course, students will be able to:
• Trace the history of astronomy and analyze how astronomy has influenced and been influenced by other historical developments
• Calculate movements, sizes, distances, and viewing angles of planets, moons, stars, and other astronomical objects as seen from Earth
• Understand, interpret, and create literary and visual expressions of the heavens
• Construct and use basic astronomical instruments
• Present an astronomy-based lesson on a non-science subject to the class<
